Walsh, London, gold fusee pocket chronometer with spring detent escapement, helical hairspring and 30-hour winding indicator, dial marked for retailer Samuel Hammond & Co. of New York, 49mm, 18K gold OF original case bearing London hallmarks for 1856, incuse "H W" marking for casemaker Henry Webb, gold cuvette, white enamel SS dial, KWKS, fully capped spring detent escapement, likely 12-13J, free-sprung balance with helical hairspring, diamond endstone, gilt mvt, s#221 with matching serial number within case. Gross weight of assembled watch 70.5 dwt (109.7 g).
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, fine scratch between winding arbor escutcheon and raised hub with "London No. 221" marking, few fine scratches to raised hub with "London No. 221" marking, some mild haze to portions of main plate; dial with hls or fractures in several areas tight along perimeter, small patched edge flaking at 2:30 and near 5; nearly mint hands; case shows medium wear, profuse fine to micro-fine scratches to cuvette from slips when winding, small ding to bezel adjacent crystal at 11:30, nick to rear perimeter at lower left, reduced engine turning detail with full loss at shoulder; tight bow thinned at top; good glass bull's-eye crystal.
